The centre of GIS & Remote Sensing of the University of Girona put “The Power of Geographic Information” within everybody’s reach

The centre of GIS and Remote Sensing Centre –SIGTE– of the University of Girona (Spain) develops a video called <a href="http://www.youtube.com/univgirona#p/u/0/jXqLHSBP_x0">The Power of Geographic Information</a> with the aim of spreading the Geographic Information Technologies to society with an everyday perspective. The video is an European pioneering initiative and a project with international scope.

We are spatial beings, our space references are part of our everyday lives, because of everything that happens, happens somewhere. Geographic Information is part of the explanation and solutions of many humanity problems and this information make find answers possible to problems in many different areas: particulars and everyday issues, governmental and business issues.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) along with other related technologies comprise what is being called geoITC and these technologies open the way to the GeoAll era, where knowing the location of everything that happens in the world becomes a social necessity, and also strategic one.

In this context arises SIGTE audiovisual project and the result is a dynamic and clear report which shows the everyday applications and advantages of Geographic Information and related technologies, highlighting the strategic role of the spatial information and its constant presence in our daily lives.

The Project, led by SIGTE of the University of Girona, has enjoyed the cooperation of different institutions and companies linked to the world of GIS.
