myESIG event

On February 10 – 12 2010 was held the myESIG 2010 iberian event – 11th Meeting of Users of Geographic Information, organized by USIG, the Portuguese association of GI Users. The event took place in Oeiras (Portugal).
Goal of this event was to cover topics as:
- development and operation of GIS (environment, geology, hydrology, oceanography, health),
- logistics and transport,
- networks,
- mobile GIS,
- modelling,
- simulation and visualization,
- geography,
- cadastre,
- geodesy and cartography,
- remote sensing and sensors,
- management and exploitation of geographic database,
- web services,
- software and standards.

The opening session of the second day included presentations of European projects, with particular emphasis on ESDI-Net+ project (presented by Rui Manuel Dias, Portuguese esdi-net+ contact point) and in particular on GIS4EU project, presented by Stefania De Zorzi, GIS4EU Coordinator, as main speaker who, during her presentation, pointed out the innovative extent of GIS4EU project for the operational validation of the implementation rules of INSPIRE Directive.
Referring to the words of the representative of the Spanish Geographic Institute (IGN), Antonio f. Rodriguez, myESIG 2010 is proposed as an attractive date for the Iberian sector of GIS and IDE; an opportunity to exchange experiences, best practices and ideas, and hopefully finally be consolidated as one of the major annual vents of must for all players in the sector.
Of course we feel great with the idea of joining the Portuguese and Spanish GIS communities, which can lead to many opportunities.
The myESIG 2010 Conference was a real success, with over 200 registered people, 7 lectures, 51 communications, a selection of posters, practical workshops and an exhibition area of 400 m², with the most representative companies in the sector.
